Laker Classic in the books with win over Milikin

The second annual Laker Classic wrapped up at the Field House at Lake Land College Saturday night.

The final game found the LLC Lakers victorious, 84-55, over Big Blue of Milikin University (JV). This marks the third time the Lakers have beaten Milikin this season.

Laker Classic wraps up LIVE on WLKL and LLC-RTV

The second annual Laker Classic wraps up tonight at the Field House at Lake Land College.

In the opening game, Southeastern Illinois College trounced Milikin University (JV) 93-40.

Navigator News releases video of Lakerpolooza 2009

Navigator News, the student newspaper of Lake Land College, released videos of Lakerpolooza 2009.

These clips are currently in rotation on LLC-RTV. If not "on the air" at any given moment, you can access individual clips using the ON-DEMAND feature on the media player. Also, you can embed a particular clip in a media player which you can then embed on your own blog or web site.

These videos originally aired on Navigator News' brand new Youtube page.

Lakerpolooza presents local talent

Lakerpolooza played Friday night at the auditorium on the campus of Lake Land College. The event featured two competitions: Battle of the Talents; Battle of the Bands.

Bradley "Blues-Rocker" Bragg won the Talent segment while III Parts Soul took top honors in the Bands segment.

The Student Activity Board and the Radio/TV Broadcasting Club hosted the event. A bake sale was held to raise money for the RTV Broadcasting Club with the donations of various club members and a substantial donation of baking supplies by S & W (food market) in Altamont.

Lakerpolooza on for Friday

Lakerpolooza will take place Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at the auditorium on the Lake Land College campus.

Two main events include:

  1. Battle of the Talents
  2. Battle of the Bands

There will also be a bake sale, from which the proceeds will benefit the Radio/TV Broadcasting Club.

The Student Activity Board and the Radio/TV Broadcasting Club are hosting Lakerpolooza.

WLKL will run a live remote from the show.

Live video streaming will be in development as well and may feature portions of Lakerpolooza.

Lakers control Blue Men

The Lake Land College Lakers men's roundball squad handled the Blue Men of Milikin University, 79-60, Monday night in the Field House.



The Lakers had been looking for a win since dropping two tough games, one to Highland Community College and one to Illinois Central College.

Conference play begins January 6, 2009, at the Field House when both the men's and women's basketball teams match up against John A. Logan College.

The next home game for the men's team is Tuesday, November 24. The Lady Lakers play in the Field House this Saturday vs. Lewis & Clark at 2:00 p.m.

Radio DJs are normally unseen personalities. But three of WLKL's student-DJs recently graced the cover of Lake Land College's student-run newspaper, Navigator News.

LLC RTV considers web-based delivery

The Radio-TV Broadcasting Department at Lake Land College is currently considering taking the products of its students' educational pursuits to the World Wide Web.

The RTV Department currently broadcasts FM radio from the campus -- WLKL 89.9 The Max Alternative. There is no license for a television station, but a web-based design would permit students to "broadcast" a bevy of TV-style productions, as well as audio (podcasts), or any combination of the two.

Mock productions help educate RTV majors

Gregory Powers of the Radio-TV (RTV) program at Lake Land College takes students through the paces television production several times a week as part of the curriculum of the Radio and Television Broadcasting class.

This mock production features all the components of a live television broadcast, however, is merely recorded for educational purposes. Students takes turns during each production performing the tasks of several elements of production.
